At Gaden Jangtse Monastery in south India our housing unit, named Tsawa Khangtsen, has become very crowded. When our old prayer hall was built in the late 1960s we began with about 100 monks. But nowadays Tsawa Khangtsen is home to more than 500 monks! More than half of us must sit outside the prayer hall, even if it is raining...
Our old prayer hall
We have begun construction on a much needed new prayer hall and dormitory for Tsawa Khangtsen. Below are some photos of the early days of construction. The workers in the photos are all monks from our housing unit.
The photo album below shows the prayer hall and dormitory construction as of October 2011. We have had to wait for funding in order to complete the project. We are looking forward with excitement to the day when we can move in!
